Harianjogja.com, SLEMAN–Do not ignore the symptoms of weakness, fatigue and lethargy, it could be that someone is infected with Corona.
The lecturer who is also an Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist at the Gadjah Mada University Academic Hospital (UGM RSA) Dr. Anton Sony Wibowo, Sp.THT-KL, M.Sc., FICS said that malaise or conditions of weakness, fatigue and lethargy can be one of the mild symptoms of a COVID-19 infection.
“This malaise appears as the body’s immune response to infection,” he said in a written statement in Yogyakarta, Tuesday (9/15/2020).
He said that malaise does not only appear as a symptom of COVID-19. This symptom is also often found in other diseases caused by infections (infectious diseases) such as other respiratory viral infections, bacterial infections or hormonal disorders.
According to him, malaise is a symptom similar to fatigue or “fatigue”. However, there is a difference between malaise and “fatigue”.
“Fatigue ‘tends to be more physical,” said the lecturer at the Department of ENT-KL, Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing (FKKMK) UGM.
He explained that malaise occurs as a form of the body’s immune response or inflammation. Meanwhile, “fatigue” is more towards a feeling of lack of energy which can be associated with certain diseases such as diabetes, anemia, heart disease, and others.
Ian advised people who feel malaise accompanied by other symptoms and have a history of close contact with a patient who has tested positive for COVID-19 to check their health at the hospital.
“If you feel malaise and there are other symptoms or there is a history of close contact with a COVID-19 patient, you should immediately go to the hospital,” said Anton Sony Wibowo.
