It is now official since this Sunday evening: Roger Federer (5th ATP) is forfeited for the next Australian Open (February 8-21, 2021). This is indeed what Craig Tiley, the tournament director, confirmed in a statement: “Finally Roger Federer will not be in time to be ready for the Australian Open and he is very disappointed not to be able to come to a tournament which is dear to his heart (…) We wish him the best for his return later in the season and hope to see him in 2022, in Melbourne “. This information is far from a surprise because in a little speech a few days ago at the Swiss Awards ceremony, where he received the prize for the best Swiss sportsman of the past 70 years, the Swiss champion had already cast doubt on his participation: “It will be fair. I was hoping to be ready in October but it was not and still is not the case now “ then recalled the Swiss who was operated on twice this year on the right knee (in February and June).
