It is quite possible that the 1000 limit will apply longer than until the end of August.

The clubs hope to be able to fill the stadiums at least 50 or 60 percent in the new season.

If no more than 1000 fans are admitted, it is unclear whether the championships will start at all.

The Swiss football and ice hockey clubs were recently confident that the Federal Council would lift the ban on major events due to the corona pandemic until the end of August and soon more than 1,000 spectators would be allowed to return to the stadiums.
–
The optimism could have been premature, as the “Tages-Anzeiger” reports. The Federal Council is considering extending the 1,000-person limit until the end of March 2021!
–
A shock. This would undoubtedly severely endanger the survival of many professional clubs that rely on viewer earnings.
–
However, a decision has not yet been made. It is only expected after August 12, when the Federal Council has ended the summer vacation.
–
Three suggestions in the consultation
According to the “Tages-Anzeiger”, three suggestions are being discussed with the cantons and associations:
–
1. The complete ban for all events with more than 1000 people until March 31, 2021.
–
2. Events with more than 1000 people are subject to authorization (also until the end of March).
–
3. The ban will be lifted completely on August 31.

Leagues at least hope for half-full stadiums
The leagues are currently working on solutions to be able to fill the stadiums at least 50 or 60 percent with the help of protection concepts. This would keep the economic damage within limits.
–
In football, the new season should begin on September 12th and in ice hockey on September 18th. It is highly questionable whether one would start with the prospect of admitting a maximum of 1,000 fans by the end of March. (sr)
