FC St. Pauli and coach Jos Luhukay will go their separate ways in the coming season. This was announced by the neighborhood club on its website. Accordingly, they had agreed by mutual agreement after the 3: 5 in Wiesbaden that Luhukay is no longer a coach at St. Pauli in the 2020/21 season.
“Jos rightly pointed out that he was brought in to put his finger in the wounds. We agreed on this when I arrived. He did that, maybe a little too deep for our club. Nevertheless, with his undisputed professional competence and his willingness to bring about success, he showed deficits, introduced young players to the first team and initiated the necessary changes of direction. We will continue to benefit from this in the future, ”said sports director Andreas Bornemann.

“With two derby victories in one season and as the first foreign coach, Jos has secured a permanent place in the club’s history,” added Bornemann. “We are in a development process that we want to continue and have another head coach continue next season.” President Oke Göttlich also thanked Luhukay for “unforgettable moments this season”.

Luhukay: “Can’t be satisfied”
“In terms of sport, we came closer to this goal with a good home record and very good appearances against the top teams in the league, but we cannot be satisfied,” says Luhukay. “A better placement prevented a disappointing appearance abroad. When it comes to publicly presenting the internally requested and necessary criticism, I would certainly do something different today. Nevertheless, it was always about the thing and only about the success of the club. I wish FC St. Pauli every success in the changes that will be necessary in the future and I am very grateful that I was able to work for this great and special club. “
