The Disciplinary Committee of the Slovak Football Association (DK SFZ) paid attention to the fans of FC DAC 1904 Dunajská Streda in last week’s I. League home match against newcomer FC Košice (5:2).
Supporters of the team from Žitné ostrov pulled out a banner on the tribune, on which the Slovak name of the city of Košice was crossed out and replaced with the Hungarian name, while the home team used smokestacks in the colors of the Hungarian flag. The disciplinarian evaluated the above as a manifestation of a provocative nature, which by its nature significantly exceeds the limits of the permitted presentation of support for her club. For the aforementioned, the club FC DAC 1904 Dunajská Streda received a fine of 1,500 euros and the conditional closure of a part of the stadium in Dunajská Streda.
“DK SFZ, as part of its decision-making activity, respects all expressions of fans of FK DAC 1904 Dunajská Streda realized on the basis of the right to freedom of expression of national minorities, while realizing that the fans consider their club to a certain extent to be a representative of the Hungarian minority in Slovakia in the football environment. These expressions however, they cannot interfere with the rights of other groups of the population. In the case of the chorea from the meeting with FC Košice, it was a significantly provocative speech containing elements of chauvinism and arrogance towards residents of the Slovak nationality, which the DK SFZ evaluated as a violation of the Disciplinary Rules of the SFZ. As before, and in the future DK SFZ will individually evaluate any expressions of fans that could cause significantly negative consequences in society, as was the case in this case as well.” said the disciplinarian in a communique on the official website of the Slovak Football Association (SFZ).
DK SFZ also pointed out that if the imposed sanctions in the form of financial fines do not deter fans from constantly repeating offensive behavior, it will regularly apply less “pro-football solutions” in its decision-making, i.e. it will also proceed to closing sectors or stadiums, which until now has been DK SFZ came only rarely and exceptionally. “The stated opinion was repeated by the management of DK SFZ by the club and the ÚLK at a joint meeting before the start of the current season. Unfortunately, it is necessary to state that in both rounds so far there have been such unacceptable expressions and therefore DK SFZ proceeded to conditional closures of the stadium or individual sectors ” added the disciplinarian.
