FC Augsburg Signs Promising Striker Lucas Ehrlich

FC Augsburg secures the services of a storm talent. It remains to be seen whether this will bring further movement into attack planning.

FC Augsburg has signed storm talent Lucas Ehrlich. As the Bundesliga club announced on Monday, the 19-year-old is coming from Dynamo Dresden on a free transfer. He signed a contract until June 30, 2027 with an option for a further year.

“In Lucas Ehrlich, we were able to win another promising talent for FC Augsburg. As a tall attacker and good at finishing, he has great potential and we are sure that he will go his way. But we will give Lucas the necessary time so that he can continue to develop with us in peace”, says managing director Stefan Reuter according to the announcement.

The 1.95 meter tall striker scored nine goals in 15 games in the A-Junior Bundesliga North/Northeast last season and is initially to be introduced to the professional team via the FCA U23s. Therefore, the 19-year-old is preparing for the new season in the Bavarian Regionalliga with the U23s in the coming weeks.

“I’m very happy about my move to Augsburg. Those responsible have given me good prospects for my development,” said Ehrlich. “I now want to prove myself in every training session and in every game and look for my chance to fulfill my dream of the Bundesliga through hard work.”

The young striker would not be a substitute in the event of a change from Mergim Berisha. But his signing at least increases the possibilities for FCA on offense. The Swabians had recently pulled the purchase option for the national soccer player. According to reports, an amount of four million euros will be due as a fee for the 25-year-old striker.

With nine goals, Berisha was Augsburg’s top scorer in the past Bundesliga season. In the international matches against Peru and Belgium, the U21 European champions made their debut in the senior national team in March. However, it seems uncertain whether Berisha will continue to play for the Fuggerstadt team in the coming season despite the permanent commitment.

This Monday, FCA started the pre-season with internal performance tests. The training camp in Schladming, Austria, will take place from July 15th to 23rd.
