FBI confirms finding of remains of boyfriend of Gabby Petito, influencer killed in US

The FBI identified this Thursday the human remains found in a Florida nature reserve such as those of Brian Laundrie, a “person of interest” in the death of his girlfriend Gabby Petito.

The remains, a backpack and a notebook believed to belong to Laundrie were discovered Wednesday in a florida nature park, according to the FBI.

The area where they were found had been underwater during previous searches.

The office of the FBI Denver said in a statement that a comparison of dental records confirmed the remains were from Laundrie.

The discovery concluded a massive search involving federal, state and local law enforcement that began after Laundrie disappeared on September 14, two weeks after the 23-year-old returned alone to his parents’ North home. Port, Florida.

Petito, 22, had been on a cross-country road trip with Laundrie, 23.

Petito’s family reported him missing on September 11, launching a search that attracted media attention around the world and focused primarily on the Carlton Reserve nature park near Laundrie’s home. It is a swampy and heavily forested area that is home to alligators, coyotes, bobcats, snakes, and many other creatures.

The intense focus on the Petito case has led to renewed calls for people to pay greater attention to cases involving missing indigenous women and other people of color.
