Fashion designer Issey Miyake (84), man behind iconic turtleneck sweater Steve Jobs, passed away | Stars

entertainment">Miyake was born in Hiroshima and was seven years old when the atomic bomb was dropped on the city. He was then in a classroom. In later life, he was reluctant to speak about the event. In 2009 he wrote in the New York Times that he didn’t want to be labeled as ‘the designer who survived the bomb’.

entertainment">After studying graphic design at an art university in Tokyo, he learned to design clothing in Paris, where he worked with the famous fashion designers Guy Laroche and Hubert de Givenchy, before moving to New York. In 1970 he returned to Tokyo and founded the Miyake Design Studio.

entertainment">He eventually developed numerous fashion lines, from his main line Issey Miyake for men and women to bags, watches and perfumes, before retiring in 1997 to devote himself to research. He was also known for the iconic turtleneck sweaters that the late Apple founder Steve Jobs always wore.
