Space telescope James Webb has been able to take pictures of nineteen galaxies. Just like our own Milky Way Galaxy, they are spiral galaxies. The galaxies are several tens of millions of light years away.
The James Webb telescope can take very detailed images based on infrared wavelengths. The arms of the spiral galaxies are well defined and full of stars, in the centers are older star clusters and sometimes active black holes. The impressive images were made public by NASA.
Research into galaxies provides important insights into star formation and also teaches us to better understand our own Milky Way.
