Farmers have warned: this thing will soon become brutally expensive in the Czech Republic. Stock up while you can

People should prepare for a sharp rise in the price of important foods, as farmers’ representatives pointed out. This time it’s nothing but potatoes. According to the Vegetable Union of Bohemia and Moravia, this year’s potato harvest was not good at all, which is reflected in their prices.

A low crop is concerned

If there was still satisfaction in the case of new potatoes, because their yield was decent, in the case of late potatoes, it was shown by the bad weather, in particular the drought that has plagued the Czech Republic for some time in recent years.

However, this year is specific as it was dry pretty much everywhere the potatoes are imported to us from. France and Germany, for example, also have a low performance. The harvest can be up to twenty percent lower than last year.

And as if that weren’t enough, the rainy weather in September made the whole situation even worse. This resulted in the potato tubers becoming mushy. Consequently, they are not suitable for long-term storage in warehouses. High energy prices also play against this.

Now they cost little, but only for a short time

A somewhat paradoxical situation is thus taking place on the market. Farmers try to get rid of potatoes as quickly as possible, no matter how low the yield, and throw them in the shops. As a result, their price is favorable right now, but it should change soon enough.

While today you can get a kilo of potatoes for eight crowns, in the spring months they can climb to really high altitudes. Farmers advise everyone who has the opportunity to buy potatoes for broth. You will thus be able to save a considerable amount, useful in the current difficult times.
