Farmers: Decisions are awaited on whether tractors will remain in the Constitution – 2024-02-24 13:49:47

Farmers call Tuesday’s (20/02) pan-Hellenic rally in Syntagma Square historic, where blocs of farmers from all over the country gathered in the city center to protest.

According to the police, over 6,000 farmers and three-digit number tractor they were in Syntagma Square for the big rally.

Blocks of farmers from all over Greece rallied and met in Athens to protest their demands, which were not met by the government.

Starting from the Castle of Boeotia, the farmers started on Monday at 09:00 in order to be in Athens on Tuesday, where they participated in the rally in Syntagma Square.

As farmers report to MEGA, at noon on Wednesday at 11:00 they will proceed to a meeting in order to decide their next moves. “The proposal is what the people say, what the tractors say. If they say to stay in the Constitution, we will stay,” said Yannis Vagos, a member of the Panhellenic Bloc Committee.

He described yesterday’s rally as historic, emphasized that the people stood by the farmers and then launched criticism against the Mitsotakis government:

“The government has not understood that it should deal with the peasantry. He has not understood that there must be production, that there must be electricity to irrigate the plain and there must be oil to plow the plain.”

“If we come out with statements like ‘we scratched the bottom’, ‘they will come out in 10 days, because they have to sow’ and with this logic, it will find us opposite. The plain is thirsty, the drought hits “red” and they deal with the saying and the chair”, he added.

The mobilizations of the farmers continue, while the decisions that will result from the assembly of the blocs are awaited.
