Farewell to Suzanne Somers: Television Star of “Apartment for Three” Dies at 76

Actress Suzanne Somers, the blonde protagonist of the successful television series Apartment for Three, died this Sunday at the age of 76, a victim of cancer, People magazine reported.

According to her publicist, Somers “died peacefully at her home” in Palm Springs (California) in the early hours of Sunday, October 15, after surviving aggressive breast cancer for more than 23 years. The interpreter died the day before her birthday.

Born in San Bruno, California, the actress began her career in the late 1960s and early 1960s with small roles, but fame came with the ABC series Three’s Company, known in Latin America as Tres son multitude, or Apartment for three, in Spain.

In it, Somers played Chrissy Snow, one of two roommates (the other, Janet Wood, was played by Joyce DeWitt) who agrees to rent the third room to culinary student Jack Tripper, a role played by John Ritter, and who must pretend to be gay to comply with the building rules.

The show, one of the most popular of the time, was broadcast between 1977 and 1984, although the performer was fired in 1980 in the middle of a fight for a salary increase.

Somers asked for an increase from the $30,000 he received per episode to $150,000, that is, the same salary that Ritter and other male stars on the network earned.

The executives offered him only a $5,000 raise. Sommers did not participate in the recording of two episodes, after which ABC fired her and in subsequent seasons she was replaced by various actresses.

Somers appeared in other series and television shows in subsequent years. However, her success once again brought a smile to her face as a businesswoman, when she founded, together with her husband, Alan Hamel, the healthy living company ThighMaster, with which she made millions of dollars and became a guru on the subject. .

She wrote twenty books, some of which became bestsellers and which were mostly focused on women’s well-being.

She is survived by her husband and son Bruce.
