The daily talk show Op1 is going to stop. The late-night program on NPO 1 will make way for September next year Khalid & Sophie, reports the AD. Eva Jinek will present a talk show in the time slot at 7 p.m.

AVROTROS director Eric van Stade only confirms to the AD that Jinek will be responsible for the evening. “Eva will be responsible for four days, from Monday to Thursday.” It is not yet known what will happen on Friday evening.

The talk show Op1 began in 2019 after Jinek left the NPO for RTL and Jeroen Pauw stopped his talk show. The program was presented by alternating duos on behalf of various broadcasters: EO, Omroep MAX, WNL and BNNVARA.

The latter broadcaster no longer contributed to the talk show from August this year Op1. The reason was a “difference of opinion regarding management and implementation”. According to BNNVARA, “proposals from our side to change this had led to nothing.” The broadcaster said it regretted this, “as we have been involved in this from the beginning and have made beautiful broadcasts together.”

Invuloefening

De Volkskrant wrote this summer a reconstruction about problems behind the scenes Op1. According to the newspaper, there are two camps: the editors who “of Op1 wants to make a talk show where ‘the talk of the day’ is central”, and the broadcasters involved would increasingly put their “ideological stamp” on broadcasts.

De Volkskrant also quotes Jeroen Pauw, who says in an internal document from June that he is not impressed by the talk show. “Despite the great ambitions, the program is Op1 haven’t gotten any better lately,” he wrote.

“There are still very successful episodes, but too often it is boring and a broadcast seems like a fill-in exercise by editors and presenters and therefore does not achieve the set ambitions.”

The NPO said in a response to the AD that it would respond “when there is more clarity about the total programming of NPO 1 in 2024-2025. We are currently still discussing this with the broadcasters.”
