The German Touring Car Masters (DTM) is about to end. Audi announced the exit from the racing series on Monday. The carmaker will withdraw after the end of the year.
For DTM boss Gerhard Berger, the Audi farewell is a heavy blow. “Today is a difficult day for motorsport in Germany and Europe. I greatly regret the decision,” said Berger in a first reaction.
Mercedes had already withdrawn at the end of 2018. Aston Martin’s guest appearance ended after only one year. For 2021 there is only one car maker on board with BMW.
It is now crucial how partners and sponsors react to the Audi farewell, Berger explained.
The start of the season, which is actually planned for the end of April in Zolder, Belgium, has been postponed to July 11th and 12th.
