TRIBUNJABAR.ID, SUMEDANG – Center for Space and Atmospheric Observation (BPAA), National Institute of Aeronautics and Space or EIGHT Sumedang, managed to observe the Planet Jupiter, Planet Saturn, and Galaxies Milky Way or Galaksi Bima Sakti on National Space Day which took place Friday (6/8/2021) night.

Head EIGHT Sumedang Aries Kurniawan said that clear sky conditions made it easier to collect sky data or astrophotography on the Planet Jupiter, Saturn and Galaksi Bima Sakti or Milky Way.

Look Planet Saturn with a ring around it. It also looks like a planet Jupiter with its distinctive color.

“Planet Saturn was observed at 18.49 WIB, Planet Jupiter was observed at 19.40 WIB, and the Milky Way Galaxy was observed at 20.30 WIB,” said Aries Kurniawan after making observations at LAPAN Sumedang, Haurngombong Village, Pamulihan District, Sumedang Regency, West Java.

Aries said, the Milky Way Galaxy can be clearly observed in conditions of low light pollution.

“Observation can be throughout the night, it is possible to see it during the dry season such as July and August. The conditions are conditions sunny weather,” he said.

“Planet Saturn sank at 05:54 WIB, Planet Jupiter sunk at 07.07 WIB. and Galaksi Bima Sakti will sink at 04.04 WIB,” said Aries, adding.

Aries said, the process of observing celestial bodies during the night warning, the dark sky was EIGHT Sumedang usually a lot of the general public who come to see the observation process.

However, said Aries, because there is an application PPKM Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, observations are closed to the public.

“Usually, many residents come to see the direct observation, even we usually install a large screen in the office yard,” he said.
