Fans flabbergasted: Ferrari souvenirs from the Cavallino restaurant / Formula 1

An incomparable Ferrari collection will be auctioned on February 6, 2021 and will amaze fans. Giuseppe Neri was the manager of the Cavallino restaurant and confidante of Enzo Ferrari.

For years it was a must for Ferrari enthusiasts: eating in the Cavallino restaurant, diagonally across from the main entrance of the Ferrari sports car factory. Over the years, Managing Director Giuseppe Neri had exhibited countless Ferrari memorabilia in the restaurant, 168 of which will be auctioned on February 6 by the Paris auction house Artcurcial: letters from Enzo Ferrari, pictures, a complete V12 engine of the Ferrari 412 by Gerhard Berger and Jean Alesi , a wind tunnel model of the Ferrari 126CK from 1981, numerous signed photos, plus many steering wheels, helmets and racing car parts such as front wings, engine covers or a survival cell from the 1995 Ferrari – basically the Cavallino was a small Ferrari museum.

Neri ran the restaurant on Via Abetone Inferiore 1 for 36 years. Enzo Ferrari used to spoil his company’s guests with culinary delights here, and the biggest stars from entertainment and sport came and went here: Pink Floyd, Sylvester Stallone, Carl Lewis, Cristiano Ronaldo, Peter Sellers. Countless racing drivers appreciated the kitchen and appreciated the personal atmosphere, Niki Lauda and Clay Regazzoni, Gilles Villeneuve and Jody Scheckter, Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel.

The Cavallino was Enzo Ferrari’s canteen: Here he sat at table every lunchtime, usually with a simple dish, tortelli in butter and sage, a cheese risotto, maybe fish. Of course, at a table that is always reserved for him.

After Giuseppe Neri’s death in 2015, his daughters Cristina, Clementina and Chiara continued to run the restaurant, but at the end of 2020 Ferrari decided to hand over the management of the restaurant to the star chef Massimo Bottura, which is currently under construction.

The Neri family then decided to auction part of the father’s collection. With this link Ferrari fans can see what will all come under the hammer.
