fake news. Is Dijon mustard stockpiled to drive up prices, as a viral internet video claims?

While mustard shelves are sparse in stores, a video posted recently and shared thousands of times on social networks, intends to denounce a sham. We explain why this video is misleading.

In a warehouse whose location is unknown, a man, who presents himself as a carrier delivering to Carrefour stores, films dozens of pallets filled with jars of mustard. Surprised to see so much mustard, he comments: “Apparently there is a shortage of mustard in the shops. Well listen, I don’t understand because we have plenty of them, ”he comments. And to add: “We cannot deliver them because we have orders to store them, so we should still be explained to us”.

A somewhat special order between Reine de Dijon and Leclerc

The explanation is more complicated. First, according to France info, the pallets are not intended to be delivered for Carrefour but for Leclerc. Contacted, Carrefour also denounced to our colleagues “a misleading arrangement aimed at harming” the image of the company.

The owner of the pallets was also found by France info. This is the Reine de Dijon brand, which has recognized its pallets thanks to the label affixed on top. According to the boss of this Burgundy company, this video would be partly “fake news”, since the interpretation of the presence of these mustard pots would be erroneous.

Questioned by public service journalists, the company, number three in mustard in France, justified this stock by a particular order. “He had agreed with Leclerc to combine 4 weeks of orders at once. Six or seven trucks left at the same time, each containing 30 pallets. Which explains why there is so much mustard filmed in the same place, ”explains the journalist of the chronicle True from false.

Reine de Dijon also specified that if the pots all arrive in the same warehouse, they are then delivered to the region where they are dispatched to the stores.
