Facts about the Mysterious Hut on the Moon Revealed

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Fact mysterious hut on the Moon discovered by China’s Yutu 2 rover some time ago has finally been revealed.

A mysterious hut on the Moon found by China’s Yutu 2 rover some time ago turned out to be a lump of rock in the shape of a rabbit.

Previously, the object, known as the Moon’s mysterious hut or ‘mystery hut’, first appeared in the field of view of the Yutu 2 rover’s camera last December, when it looked like a blurry cube-shaped image on the horizon.

The rover or rover is the first to explore the far side of the Moon and always faces away from Earth. This region has a coarser texture and more cratered areas than the near side of the moon or the side facing Earth.

In the images captured at the time the object appears irregularly symmetrical with an oddly flat top, so researchers from China’s National Space Agency’s outreach program Our Space joked that the object might be an alien hut.

Then after traversing the distance for a month to move to the location of the moon hut, the rover has now sent close-up images of the object to Earth. And it turns out that the rock is much smaller than it looks from afar. This stone is also much rounder and cuter.

Upon closer inspection, this stone looks very much like a squatting rabbit chewing some carrots (which is actually a smaller rock).

The boulder was later dubbed the ‘jade rabbit’ by the Yutu 2 team, who announced closer research on the object on Friday (7/1).

Apart from referring to its shape, the name also refers to the name of the cruiser Yutu, which translates to the same meaning, namely ‘jade rabbit.’

Reported from CNET, the name of the rover Yutu-2 which means the Jade Rabbit makes this rover feel like finding its own mascot on the moon.

Furthermore, aerospace journalist Andrew Jones said in a tweet that the lack of perspective in the original image led many to wish the Jade Rabbit had a massive structure more like the Arc de Triomphe or CCTV’s towering headquarters building in Beijing.

Yutu 2, which has investigated the rock, will now continue to explore the 115 -mile (186 -kilometer) Von Kármán crater.

Reported from Live ScienceThe rover has been exploring the region since the Chang’e 4 spacecraft sent it to the lunar surface in its first smooth landing on the far side of the Moon in January 2019.

The rover is the longest device ever to explore the lunar surface. The device has explored the porous soil that forms at least 40 meters of the top layer of the Moon’s surface, as well as probed for a strangely colored gel-like substance found in the craters.
