Facebook wants to improve shopping with artificial intelligence

Facebook wants to use artificial intelligence (AI) to improve online shopping on its social media platforms. Mark Zuckerberg’s company wants to expand an AI-controlled recognition function called Groknet, which will automatically identify products in images from providers on Facebook and link these and similar products, like Facebook in his official blog announced. The aim is therefore that salespeople can use AI to make their products easier to find – and, accordingly, to make it easier for people to find the products they are looking for.

In the future, providers should also benefit from AI on Instagram

According to the company, the Zuckerberg company is currently working on ensuring that users can also see similar products on Instagram thanks to the AI when they tap on the image of a product. However, Facebook writes that this new feature is still in the early stages of development. The company believes that this AI-driven visual search for products can improve mobile shopping.

Groknet: automatic product suggestions thanks to artificial intelligence

Facebook has been working on Groknet since 2020. For example, the technology can currently recognize a sofa as well as its style and color in an image on Facebook, divide it into a product group and link it. On Facebook entries, the AI can also link similar ones from the product catalog of the respective sellers that are suggested to users on Facebook. Thus, providers do not have to link their products independently in the post. Groknet is also already being used on the Facebook Marketplace to display the products you want in search queries.
