A new scam has emerged on this social network and threatens and Internet users. Scammers pretend to be RTL-TVI by offering to win iPhones or PlayStation 5s.
It has become commonplace on Facebook. The scammers use the popularity of certain celebrities to attract Internet users on social networks. The latest scam concerns the group RTL Belgium.
The mechanism always remains the same
False profiles of stars offer to win gifts and ask in exchange for personal data in order to extract money from the unfortunate victims who think they are participating in a contest of their favorite celebrity.
For several days, posts published on the so-called official Facebook page of the RTL Belgium media have offered to earn Playstation 5 and iPhone 11 Pro to the first 200 people who will follow a few simple steps:
- Love the photo
- Comment on the post
- Send a private message.
It is during this last step that malicious people operate by notably asking participants to send several of their personal data. Behind this very tempting competition hides a new scam. Be careful, too tempting gifts often hide unpleasant surprises …
