Facebook plans to reverse Donald Trump’s block on social networks

Meta is thinking of reversing the blocks operated on the account of the former president of the United States, Donald Trump, on his social networks Facebook and Instagram.

According to the Financial Times, the company has already made the decision and is preparing to make this announcement soon.

The report indicates that the companies led by Mark Zuckerberg had planned to announce that the former president would return to their networks on January 7.

However, due to unspecified reasons, this decision is expected to be made soon.

Meta set up a working group to study the issue, including workers from the public policy and communications teams, as well as content policy.

Donald Trump’s accounts were banned from the world’s top social networks after he was accused of influencing his followers to wreak havoc in the country after losing in the 2020 election. The most conflicting situation unfolded in January 2021, when the Capitol Storming happened.

Meta’s decision will come after Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter, lifted a permanent ban on Trump in November last year after polling users.

Trump, however, has not wanted to return to the social network after creating his own platform called Truth Social.
