Facebook is preparing Live Audio, a copy of Clubhouse

As of February, we know that Facebook is working on a competitor to Clubhouse, the new all-audio social network that has garnered a lot of attention recently and even raised $ 100 million for its development. Now we can finally get a first look at what’s known internally as “Live Audio,” Facebook’s new feature that’s basically a copy of Clubhouse.

Facebook is currently testing the “Live Audio” function in Messenger.

Developer Alessandro Paluzzi figured out how to activate the new feature in Facebook’s mobile app, which is still hidden from ordinary users. We also learn how functionality should work – at least according to its internal version.

Audio functionality would be integrated into Messenger Rooms, which is a Zoom-like Facebook platform with audio and video chats. Users will soon find an option to start a live audio broadcast that will allow them to hear what you are saying in a room, such as in Clubhouse and Twitter Spaces.

Once the Live Audio room is created, the user can invite other users to join the conversation through a Facebook post, a direct message on Messenger, or by sharing a public link. Profile photos of users in this room are presented in a circular form, and they will be separated between speakers, people followed by speakers, and others, just like Clubhouse does.

Publicity

As Paluzzi pointed out, this is just an unfinished interface that isn’t even functional at this point, so Live Audio functionality may evolve before its release. However, it is impossible not to see the resemblance to Clubhouse here.

Facebook is not alone in developing a new audio platform to compete with Clubhouse. Twitter has extended its Spaces feature to more users in recent weeks with the intention of making it accessible to everyone starting in April.

Clubhouse surpassed 8 million downloads on the App Store last month. So other services are expected to hit the market as there seems to be huge interest in audio applications right now. Unless it’s a fad like Periscope for example …
