San Francisco: After several hours of total failure worldwide, Facebook and its corporate subsidiaries Instagram and WhatsApp are at least partially connected to the Internet again. Facebook’s technical team apologized on Twitter when the services came back online after about a six-hour break in the evening. Security experts said the massive outage could be the result of an internal mistake. Sabotage by an insider is also theoretically possible. Billions of users were affected by the disruption. The Downdetector website, which documents IT incidents, has named the incident as the largest outage ever observed.
