Fabrizio Pregliasco: “The new Dpcm is a bitter medicine. But the lockdown has limits. Let’s speed up the vaccine”

“We need a tightening of the measures, but at the moment a hard lockdown, similar to that of last April, would not be easily sustainable. There would be an objective difficulty in joining by a large number of categories of people who are still facing sacrifices and who have, of course, been the most affected ”. This is the vision of the virologist of the University of Milan Fabrizio Pregliasco.

While a new Dpcm is preparing to dictate the pace of the restrictions in the coming weeks, and the reaction of those forced to the red zone such as Lombardy is recorded, among the experts there are those who warn about the need for new drastic blocks to stop the rush of the virus – and the risk of dangerous variants appearing – and not undermining vaccination. The same consultant to the Minister of Health for the coronavirus emergency, Walter Ricciardi, has signaled the opportunity for an energetic one-month lockdown.

“These are shared reasons – admits Pregliasco to Adnkronos Salute – but there is a question of sustainability. We hoped in good faith, when we were in the middle of the second wave, that the “October-November” squeeze would allow a free Christmas. We told the citizens: hold on now so as not to deprive yourself of the holidays later. We were not able to ensure that this goal was reached, because the virus has a great spreading capacity. At this time when you don’t see a perspective. I fear that, as the management of the Lombardy Region points out, it must be taken into account that there is no manual for the management of the lockdown and a way must be found that tightens the links, like the latest Dpcm, but in a sustainable way ” .

The latest Dpcm must be seen as “a further dose of bitter medicine to achieve something useful with respect to the objectives of reducing infections and securing the vaccination campaign. We need to be realistic and also look at the limits shown by the lockdown ”, adds Pregliasco.

“The speed of vaccination is fundamental – he reiterates – because it is the one that gives the real result. With the measures we have managed to mitigate the spread of the disease, but sustainability has limits and it is difficult to impose a new lockdown, given the signs of fatigue coming from the population. We have seen aspects of revolt that have not had a great resonance and acceptance, and which are also not acceptable because breaking the law is not the right way to highlight the objective suffering of a certain category of people who sacrifice themselves obtorto neck, but this there is suffering and it cannot be ignored ”.
