Fabrègues, a regular on long journeys in the Coupe de France

the essential
After three failures in the 7th round, the Castonétois move to Fabrègues (N3) this afternoon at 2 p.m., to defeat the Indian sign.

Yoan Boscus and his players are preparing to take on a new major challenge. With will, perseverance and quality, they gave themselves the opportunity to pursue the dream and challenge Fabrègues on his lawn, in order to glean a ticket for the 8th round of the Coupe de France. Previously eliminating Béziers (N2, 2-2 tab 4-1) then Tarbes (R1, 5-2), Onet got used to XXL performances. It will take no less to overcome Héraultais who evolve a stage higher (N3 against R1) and present themselves true specialists of the event (see opposite). “It’s a new trip to a hierarchically superior team. We will have to perform at least the same performance as last week, and even more to hope to qualify”, confirms the OCF coach.

“A giant’s appetite”

In these times of pandemic and health restrictions, the Aveyronnais continued their rise this week, punctuated by four training sessions, some after the time of the curfew, as it is now authorized to them.

This program was necessary in order to be ready on the big day, while morale and confidence are pumped up, in particular thanks to the qualification obtained in Tarbes. The young but already experienced trainer admitted to being satisfied with the investment made by his foals while transmitting his convictions to them. “Fabrègues has experience, it’s a cup team with attacking qualities, he says. We go home with a giant appetite. Considering what we have shown, we have a capital of confidence. I’m not traveling for anything other than bringing back the qualification. “

For this event, the coach will be able to count on the return of suspension of side defender Vaysset, but deplores the absence of Malrieu, victim of a cut to his knee in Tarbes. Riva, Deplace and Dominice will not be restored in time to apply for a place in the squad. On the side of Fabrègues, the defender Clos, sent off to Castanet, during the last round, is suspended.

Fabrègues, friable defense

Even if the task promises to be difficult, but far from impossible, Captain Bobek and his teammates have assets in hand to shake up a permeable Hérault defense. Proof of this is the last two defeats of the premises before the end of the championship competitions by three goals, as well as the thirteen goals conceded in six league games.

There is no doubt that Florent Rech, the trainer of the Ruthenian reserve, will have given some valuable information to Yoan Boscus. The reservists blood and gold were imposed (2-1) against this same opponent, during the inaugural day of National 3, in Vabre, with a double from Daouda Gueye.

What to inspire and renew the performance to finally turn the page of this cursed 7th round, which marked the end of the Castonese cup course in 2001, 2005 and 2013. Moreover, eight years later, four actors are still there in the ranks of Aveyron: Bonnet, Brunet, Vaysset, Fabre and Ayrinhac, now assistant coach. The survivors of the defeat against Sète (3-0) could be valuable to bring a little more experience. As we have understood, Onet has only one wish: to extend the adventure.

2001, 2005 and 2013. Before this year, Onet had reached the 7th round of the Coupe de France three times. Former striker David Marino is the only player to have disputed the first three games.

Traveling to Fabrègues today, Onet is preparing to face a specialist in the oldest French competition. The Hérault club has indeed participated twice in the 32nd finals, in 2018 and 2020. And going back in time, the suburbs of Montpellier had climbed up to the 8th finals, in 2013, ended with a defeat against in Dijon (6-1). Combaud, the evening scorer, and Zaghar are the only two survivors of this epic.

By chance, during the course that ended in January 2018 against Bourg-en-Bresse (defeat 1-2 after extra time) then a resident of L2, the Héraultais had released the Raf during the previous round in December 2017 after having equalized in stoppage time and then winning on goal. In January 2020, Fabrègues was eliminated once again in 32nd, this time against Paris FC (L2, 0-2).

The blow specialist is, however, less celebrating this season in the league. Resident of National 3, in the same pool as Rodez II, the Fabréguois were in bad shape in the standings before the end of the competitions due to Covid-19, pointing to twelfth place out of fourteen after 6 days (2 wins, 4 losses, 11 goals scored, 13 conceded).

A milestone for Onet

David Marino: “Everyone remembers Istres”

What are your links today with the Castonétois club?

I am a little less present, especially because of the Covid-19 and the cessation of competitions. We have very good relations with Yoan (Boscus, the trainer, editor’s note) and his assistants. We often discuss and exchange football. Then my parents are still diligent volunteers of the club.

Do you still have a license?

No, but that does not prevent me from following the results extremely carefully. I am very often at the stadium normally.

Are you the only player to have played all three matches in the 7th round in club history? Did you know and what does it inspire you?

Yes I confirm. It is certain that it is a source of pride, afterwards there is nothing exceptional either. These are only 7th rounds. I especially had the chance to evolve in very good groups. Also, I played Onet from my 16 1/2 until I was 33 so that helps. Automatically, this gives more chances.

What memories do you keep of these three meetings?

Ah! Everyone remembers the meeting against Istres (in 2001, Editor’s note) and this ball which unfortunately falls on the crossbar when I have already left to celebrate my goal (laughs). Beyond this action, it was a match at Paul-Lignon against a second division team. There were 3 or 4,000 people, I was only twenty years old, it remains a great memory.

After, oddly, 2005 against Luzenac, I don’t have a lot of memories. And Sète in 2013 is different. The club was in a year of transition. I was not sure to play because I was injured. Finally, I was able to take my place (released in the 74th minute) but there had been no photo.

What is the most striking?

It was in 2001 against Istres especially with the history of the bar. Then we had a team that was a mix of old and young.

What makes Onet not manage to pass this famous 7th lap?

I especially think that once arrived at this stage of the competition, the teams are often of higher level. Today, this will once again be the case against a N3 and more outside.

Will this time be the right one? This may be the year it will pass. Eventually, with the restrictions, there will be no audience. The Castonétois come out of a great match in Tarbes. To have been at their side, they have a big collective. I had the opportunity to eat with them during snacks and I can tell you that this group lives very well together.

What can be the key to the meeting and what can make the difference?

Precisely, this special context and the fact that they come out of a big game with a lot of self-confidence.

Will you be present and will you follow the meeting?

No, given the conditions and the fact that it’s outside, it’s too complicated. I will follow the live as I did last Sunday. I didn’t let go of my phone the whole game.
