F1 movie goes viral: “My phone just kept going” – Drenthe

She spent about five or six hours doing it: a cheerful compilation of images with Formula 1 drivers, to the sounds of the title song of the popular sitcom Friends (I’ll Be There For You).

“For fun”

The 45-second video clip, which was put online at the end of last week, was intended for her friends on social media. “Just for fun,” says Simone. “I was looking forward to that, a kind of warm-up for a new Formula 1 season that starts on Sunday.”

It went a little differently.

The official Formula 1 noticed the film on Sunday and posted it on Twitter with the addition The One That Made Us Smile. Instead of a limited audience, the images could suddenly be viewed by no fewer than 4.3 million followers.

“Weird, right?”

On Monday afternoon, the F1 film had been viewed more than 250,000 times. They are being responded to worldwide. Simone is laughing. “Weird, right?”

In the beginning there was excitement especially with her friends. ,, Oh, how cool, I was told. It will, I thought, but it soon dawned on me that it was special, “says the 18-year-old. “And my phone kept going, like I was constantly being called.”

Graphical designer

Born in Drenthe (she lived in Vledder for about nine years), she is studying media design at Friesland College. She now lives in Frisian Noordwolde, just across the Drenthe border. As a graphic designer, Simone is involved with all kinds of (social) media expressions.

Formula 1 has been her focus for a year. ,, I used to watch races on TV, together with my father. Encourage little Max (Verstappen-ed.) And so on. ”

“Everything from knowing”

But in the meantime the sport of adrenaline, glamor and big money has got a hold on Simone. ,, I even watch the free practice sessions on Friday and want to know everything about it; technical data, the private life of the drivers, the behind-the-scenes look. “

As a fan, but even more as a graphic designer, she is also interested in the media expressions of the teams and drivers. ,, Team McLaren, with Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris, is my favorite. They do so well on social media. They are funny, resourceful but also super professional. “

Examples of this are shown in the Formula 1 video: the cheerful Ricciardo, the young Albon, Gasly, LeClerc and Norris, of course “our” Max and even veterans Räikkönen and Vettel.

“Never messing with each other”

The Mercedes drivers Hamilton and Bottas are coming off. With reason, it turns out. ,, The videos are often more formal and tighter. That appeals to me less. They are never even getting on with each other. “

Simone will graduate in a few months. The 18-year-old does not yet know what she will do next. A continuation of higher professional education? Looking for a job? Perhaps a career with an F1 team? “Ha yes, that would be the ultimate dream.”

Anyway, her resume looks brighter after last weekend. The much-watched film marches as a digital brass band for Simone.
