F1: lowering of the spending ceiling in 2021 – rts.ch – Auto

The annual budget ceiling imposed on F1 teams from 2021 will be lowered to $ 145 million (140 million francs). This in order to face the economic impact of the Covid-19 crisis, announced F1 sports director Ross Brawn.

Before the crisis, which led to the postponement of the start of the 2020 season, the teams and the governing bodies of F1 had agreed on a ceiling of 175 million dollars (169 million francs), with exclusions, in order to reduce the performance gap between small and large teams.

“With the current crisis, we will start at 145 million and the discussion is really about how much we can reduce in the next few years“Brawn told Sky Sports F1 after an exchange with F1 CEO Chase Carey and the FIA.

Ferrari and Red Bull opposed a reduction in this annual spending limit, when McLaren led the fight for a clean cut up to $ 100 million (96 million francs).
