Lewis Hamilton ever closer to 100: the Englishman won pole number 99 of his career in Imola, beating the Red Bulls of Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen. Fourth is Charles Leclerc with Ferrari, who therefore starts from the second row. Carlos Sainz’s other red was eliminated in Q2 and will start from 11th box.

Lewis great but without a squire

For Hamilton it is yet another feat, even better defined by the eighth place of team mate Valtteri Bottas, demonstrating that at the moment Mercedes is above all Hamilton. Lewis bent the two Red Bulls by a whisker: but the surprise is that in the front row there will not be Verstappen but Sergio Perez, who therefore interrupted a streak of 31 qualifying in which Max has always preceded his teammate. The confirmation of how Red Bull did well to sign Perez who tomorrow with the same Verstappen will try to bite Hamilton, who was left without a squire.

Ferrari enjoys fourth place from Leclerc, a nice second row favored also by the time canceled by Lando Norris: the Englishman of McLaren has exceeded the limit of the track in turn 9 and so he will have to start seventh behind his teammate Ricciardo. At home Ferrari went less well for Carlos Sainz, who was eliminated in Q2: “I didn’t do a good lap in the whole session – said the Spaniard – I also made a mistake in balancing the braking in Q2. I know where I have to improve to be fast in every corner, but I have to be fast on the same lap ”.
