1975 was the debut year of the traffic light to kick off a Formula 1 GP. The first time was at the Silverstone British Grand Prix. The race was won by Emerson Fittipaldi on McLaren.

The British GP winner’s cup was created in 1871 and is called the Royal Automobile Club Trophy: it weighs almost 3 kilos and is 64 centimeters high. The original is gold and was made in Covent Garden by one of the most important goldsmiths of Queen Victoria’s reign. The names of the winners are engraved on the lower belt. It begins in 1948, when Formula 1 did not yet exist and Luigi Villoresi was the winner on Maserati. The pilots are entitled to a replica of the cup. However, the original is used for the podium ceremony.

Silverstone is one of the most physically demanding tracks for drivers. The current Formula 1 achieve lateral acceleration close to 5g both at the Copse, which is run almost in full, and in the sequence of Maggots and Becketts, where the very fast changes of direction put the set up to the whip. It is the number 71 edition of the British GP. Together with that of Italy, this race is the only one that has never left the World Cup calendar. Here on 13 May 1950 the first Formula 1 GP in history was held and always here, a year later, Ferrari conquered its first success in the top category, thanks to the Argentine José Froilàn Gonzàlez on 375 F1.
