An American Airlines flight bound for Florida was diverted to Louisiana after 10 people were injured when the plane collided with severe turbulence.
Flight 2401 had departed Dallas Fort Worth International Airport around 7:30 p.m. local time on Thursday, June 24 with 190 passengers and six flight attendants on board, NOLA.com reported Tuesday.
But the flight suffered severe turbulence en route to Tampa, Florida, sending some of the people on board flying out of their seats, the airline said.
Paramedics received the plane when it landed at Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans around 9.30 p.m.
Ten people: eight passengers and two flight attendants — Were taken to hospital with injuries.
Sheri Parsley-Najera, a woman who said she was on the flight, described the experience in a Facebook post on Monday.
Perejil-Nájera said the plane hit clear air turbulence, which is sudden and severe and occurs without visual cues, and suddenly fell 150 feet.
“There was no bad weather and the flight was smooth before this. It was so scary, and I / most of the flight thought we were going to crash,” Parsley-Najera wrote.
He said he avoided getting up from his seat thanks to the seat belt, but several other passengers hit the roof and a man not wearing a seat belt landed on the passengers.
