Extreme Heat Wave in Egypt: Meteorological Details and Breaking Date

A member of the Media Center of the Meteorological Authority, in exclusive statements to “The Seventh Day,” indicated that the country is witnessing a continuation of the wave of high temperatures that it is exposed to from last week, with the continuation of high humidity levels due to our impact on India’s seasonal depression.

She added that the country is also affected by an air rise that increases the periods of sunshine, with high humidity levels during the day and night periods, and calm wind speeds. All these factors make us feel very hot waves.

And she pointed out that the regions in southern Upper Egypt are witnessing the highest temperatures, in which the maximum reaches 45 degrees, pointing out that we will continue to be affected by this wave until the end of the week.

And she pointed out that the highest temperatures expected to be recorded this week will be on Thursday, when the maximum temperatures in Cairo reach 39 degrees, and the tangible ones are close to 44 degrees this day, appealing to citizens to avoid direct exposure to sunlight, especially from noon until afternoon, and to be in well-ventilated places, eat refreshments and wear cotton clothes.

And she indicated that it is expected at the beginning of next week that the wave will decrease and break in the north of the country, as we will be affected by an air depression that will help lower temperatures and return temperatures to their normal rates on the northern coasts, Greater Cairo and Lower Egypt.

Today, Tuesday, there will be a rise in temperatures, as very hot and humid weather will prevail during the day in Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt and the eastern coasts of South Sinai and South Upper Egypt, hot and humid on the northwestern coasts, hot and humid at night all over.

The Meteorological Authority also expects that today will witness a rise in humidity levels throughout the day, which increases the feeling of the weather’s heat, and a watery cloud in the early morning on some roads leading to and from Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt, the northern coasts, the Canal cities, and central Sinai.

Wind activity is also witnessed today on the beaches of Matrouh, Dabaa, El Alamein and Alexandria, with wind speeds of 40:50 km per hour and wave heights of 2:3 meters.

As for the temperatures, today, Tuesday: Cairo, high 38 degrees, felt 41 degrees, low 27 degrees, Alexandria high 33 and low 24 degrees, Matrouh high 32 degrees and low 23 degrees, Sohag high 43 degrees and low 27 degrees, Qena high 44 degrees and low 28 degrees, Aswan high 45 degrees, high 46 and low 29 degrees.

It is noteworthy that the summer solstice this year, 2023 AD, occurred at (5:59) pm, Cairo Summer Time, on Wednesday, June 21, and the length of the summer season this year is 93 days, 13 hours, and 52 minutes.

The sun rotates in an apparent orbit with respect to the stars of the celestial background that appear fixed in the sky, and this orbit is known as the zodiacal circle, and the plane of the zodiacal circle is inclined with the plane of the circle of the celestial equator at an angle of 23 degrees and 27 minutes, which is the same angle by which the axis of the earth’s rotation is inclined from the perpendicular to the plane of its orbit, and as a result of the earth’s rotation around the sun and the inclination of its axis at the level of its orbit at this angle, the four seasons occur.
