Extraordinary for Sofia! A key decision is coming up – 2024-03-11 12:08:28

The chairman of the Sofia Municipal Council (SOS), Tsvetomir Petrov, is convening an extraordinary meeting this Thursday, March 14, at 10:00 a.m., on the topic of security in Sofia, the Council’s press center reported, quoted by BTA.

Already on Friday, after the information about cases of violence in the capital appeared, the head of the city parliament and the mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality, Vasil Terziev, discussed the possibility of inviting representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Metropolitan Directorate of Internal Affairs, the State Agency for Refugees and the Directorate of Security ” regarding the actions taken on the specific cases and the activities of the institutions for the protection of public order in Sofia in the past year, as well as the planned measures for their improvement in the current year, indicated the SOS.

The mayor Vasil Terziev and the chairman of SOS Tsvetomir Petrov call for the conversation about security in Sofia to be conducted constructively and based on facts, and not to allow political speculation and to sow panic in society.

“I am convening this meeting for two reasons – the first of them is that the peace and security of the citizens of Sofia is our priority, and the second is to soberly analyze the situation and take the necessary measures to improve it. It is unacceptable to use, as it turned out, domestic incidents to accumulate political dividends, notes Petrov, quoted by the press center of the Council.

He calls on all municipal councilors to approach this sensitive topic pragmatically and responsibly. Let’s first listen to what the competent institutions have to say, and not introduce misinformation and, what’s worse, instill intolerance and hatred among citizens,” commented Tsvetomir Petrov.

Radical measures to deal with the security crisis related to migrants were proposed by the chairmen of GERB and DPS Boyko Borisov and Delyan Peevski this morning. In the parliament’s registry, both parties submitted proposals for changes to the Law on the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Law on Administration, with which it is proposed to increase the capacity of the Border Police by 1,264 staff members to guard the refugee centers and strengthen the guarding of the border.

The “Vazrazhdane” party insisted earlier today on the convening of an extraordinary security session in connection with ensuring the safety of the citizens and guests of Sofia.
