The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) extends the schedule school holidays for three days in three regions. The extension was carried out to reduce traffic jams back and forth for Eid 2022.
The school holiday which was originally set until Sunday (8/5/2022) was extended to Wednesday (11/5/2022). This regulation, which applies to the DKI Jakarta, West Java, and Banten regions, changes the school entry schedule for students which was originally set on Monday (9/5/2022).
“The Ministry of Education and Culture has responded positively to the results of coordination with the Ministry of Transportation regarding joint efforts to help unravel congestion during the return flow of Lebaran 2022, especially in the Jabodetabek area,” said Acting Head of the Bureau of Cooperation and Public Relations of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Anang Ristanto when confirmed, Thursday (4/5/2022) .
School Entry Schedule for Elementary-High School Students
Changes to the school entry schedule are determined by a decree from the head of the education office in each region. Here’s more:
A. School Entry Schedule for Elementary and Senior High Schools in DKI
The DKI Jakarta Education Office from the beginning has determined school holidays on Eid 2022 to Wednesday (11/5/2022). Elementary-high school students re-enter on Thursday (12/5/2022) according to notification letter number: 13504/-1.851 signed on January 20, 2022.
The schedule for school holidays during Lebaran 2022 can also be seen in the Education Calendar for the 2021/2022 Academic Year for PAUD, TKLB, SD, SDLB, SMP, SMPLB, SMA, SMALB, SMK. In the calendar, the holiday before Eid lasts for three days and six days after Eid.
B. School Entry Schedule for Elementary and High Schools in West Java
Quoted from the West Java Provincial Education Office page, students at each level of formal and non-formal education re-entered on Thursday (12/5/2022). Previously, students entered on Wednesday (11/5/2022) for SMA/SMK and Monday (9/5/2022) for SD-SMP.
Head of the West Java Education Office (Kadisdik), Dedi Supandi conveyed this schedule in accordance with President Jokowi’s appeal and the direction of the Directorate General of Early Childhood Education (PAUD). The purpose of extending school holidays is to avoid traffic jams back and forth for Eid.
The decision is contained in the Letter of the Head of the West Java Province Education Office Number 7662/PK.02.01.05/PSMA dated June 14, 2021 concerning Guidelines for Compiling an Educational Calendar for the 2021/2022 Academic Year as a Technical Reference for Learning Activities in Education Units that the Eid Holiday is for Students 25 April-10 May 2022.
C. School Entry Schedule for Elementary and High Schools in Banten
Quoted from the Banten Province Education and Culture Office, the local government extended the school holidays after Lebaran 2022. The schedule for entering SMA-SMK will be Thursday (12/5/2022) from Monday (9/5/2022)

The policy also applies to districts/cities that manage elementary and junior high school education levels. Tabrani hopes that this regulation can reduce traffic congestion after Eid 2022.
