Explosions in front of homes in Borgerhout, Boom and Merksem

crime

In Borgerhout, an attack was committed on Monday night against the parental home of drug criminal Mohamed ‘Akerhi’ EH. There was a brief fire, but the damage was limited. A fire was also set in Boom and Merksem.

The facts took place just after 2.30 am in the Guldenspoorstraat in Borgerhout. Unknown people tried to detonate two water bottles containing fuel in front of a house. This was only partially successful, resulting in a short fire and limited fire damage. Emergency services arrived on scene and a perimeter was set up. The lab will examine the fuel bottles left behind.

The home in question is that of the EH family, which has been the target of attacks in the drug environment in the past. Their home was targeted several times in 2016 and 2017. One of the sons of the family is Mohamed ‘Akerhi’ EH, a drug criminal who was on the run for years and received several long prison sentences in the aftermath of the hacking of the Sky ECC messaging service, in cases of both drug smuggling and drug violence.

Boom and Merksem

At approximately the same time as the attack in Borgerhout, an explosive was also detonated in Boom, against the front door of a house in Gasstraat. Local residents were startled by some kind of explosion and a flash of flame, which quickly disappeared. The front door was severely damaged.

And while the emergency services were working in Boom and Borgerhout, an explosion also sounded in Merksem. A house in the Gasthuishoevestraat was targeted there, it is the address where Imrane EL was registered. EL was also convicted several times, but he was acquitted on appeal in a case involving drug violence. The front door, a parked car and some garbage bags were damaged.

The police are investigating the various incidents and are also investigating whether there is a link between the facts.
