Experts Open Up Opportunities To Create Jets With Light Speed Like The Millennium Falcon

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Speed of light impossible to reach by humans and their vehicles, so the classical theory physics said. The reason is, the closer to the speed of light, the greater the energy required. Now, there is a bright spot through certain particles.

In the science fiction universe of Star Wars, vehicles at the speed of light are commonly used for inter-galactic transportation and escape from enemy prey. One of the most famous is the Millennium Falcon, a plane belonging to Han Solo’s character, with its co-pilot Chewbacca.

Despite its wide body, this spaceship is adept at swaying imperial fighter jets, the TIE Fighter, between asteroids, and then fleeing at the speed of light to distant galaxies.

The speed of light in a vacuum alone reaches 299,792,458 meters per second or 1,079,252,848,8 km per hour (physical lessons at school round it up to 3 x 10 to the power of 8 m/s).

Quoted from Science World, the closer to the speed of light, the more energy we must provide to make things move. To reach the speed of light, you need an infinite amount of energy, and that’s impossible!

In addition there is a time dilation. Time slows down as you approach the speed of light. When you reach it, time stops. For example, an Astronaut who has been on the International Space Station (ISS) for 6 months will age 0.005 seconds later than his Earthly sibling.

The reason is, the ISS, which circles the earth every 90 minutes, reaches 0.003 percent of the speed of light.

Then why light? Light consists of photons, which are massless particles and therefore do not require energy to move.

Besides, photons are timeless, everything happens instantaneously. Trying to make photons go faster than the speed of light is like stopping your car and trying to slow down.

Now, the world of physics has a bright spot through the latest research from the University of Göttingen, Germany, on superluminal transport, aka beyond the speed of light.

Quoted from site Officially, the solution to the speed limit problem is to build a ‘soliton’, an extremely fast material using only positive energy sources to travel at any speed.

The author of the paper, published in the journal Classical and Quantum Gravity, Erik Lentz, reports that solitons, also known as ‘warp bubbles’, are solid waves that maintain their shape and move at a constant speed.

Lentz derived Einstein’s equations for an unexplored soliton configuration and discovered that an altered geometry of space-time can be shaped the way it works, even with conventional energy sources.

In essence, this new method uses the structure of space and time arranged in solitons to provide a faster-than-light travel solution.
