Experts in Singapore Say Vaccination Can Reduce the Severity of Covid-19 Symptoms

TRIBUNNEWS.COM, SINGAPORE – Data from expert research published on the website of the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) Singapore shows that vaccination can reduce the ‘severity’ of symptoms of the corona virus (Covid-19).

Although getting vaccinated does not guarantee a person will be protected from the virus.

On Tuesday, of the 610 local cases they had not received a dose of the vaccine and reported since April 28, 2021, 9.2 percent of them were positive for Covid-19 with serious treatment.

They may even need oxygen supplementation or treatment in an intensive care unit (ICU).

Of that 9.2 percent, 6 of them died due to complications related to Covid-19.

In contrast, no Covid-19 deaths were reported from a pool of 289 patients who had received one or two doses of the vaccine.

The proportion of patients who developed the disease to a serious level also showed a lower rate in the partially vaccinated group.

This can be seen from only 7.3 percent of patients who need additional oxygen or enter the ICU, because they have received a dose of the vaccine.

As for those who were fully vaccinated or two doses, only 1 percent needed supplemental oxygen.

Quoted from the Channel News Asia page, Wednesday (30/6/2021), during the recent spike in cases that occurred from 12 to 24 June, Singapore’s National Center for Infectious Diseases (NCID) conveyed the observation that 35.5 percent of the total number of cases were those over 60 years of age.
