Experts in America Strengthen the Potential of Covid-19 Vaccines later this year

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The world will know what the potential is the Covid-19 vaccine which is now safe and effective for widespread use in early December. However, even if it is safe, its widespread availability will not occur until the new year.

The director of the United States National Institute of Infectious Diseases and Allergy, Anthony Fauci, stated on Sunday, October 25, 2020. “The number of doses available in December will definitely not be enough to vaccinate everyone – you have to wait a few months in 2021.”

Fauci added that immunity in the community requires vaccinating a certain proportion of the population. But he does not expect it to be achieved until the second or third quarter of 2021.

He advised the people of the nations to continue to stick to the current health protocol until next year. “With a vaccine that has been tested, we will eventually return to normal conditions at that time,” he said.

However, Fauci said it would not be true to say that the United States is now at a turning point in rising in the pandemic. He was referring to a statement that President Donald Trump made recently, most recently during the final debate in the presidential election.

“The existing data can speak for itself,” Fauci said while warning that even in a country that is already relatively low the number of new cases could fall back into this pandemic if not careful.

Prior to Fauci’s statement, the team leader of scientists at WHO, Soumya Swaminathan, has said that one or two candidates for the Covid-19 vaccine are expected to complete clinical trials by the end of November.

From there, he hoped, there would soon be a study of minimum standards, according to regulators in each country, so that at least the vaccine could be widely used in an emergency.
