Expert: Russia, using Belarus, can partially close the sky over Lithuania

Political scientist Ivan Preobrazhensky believes that Russia, in revenge for the blockade of Kaliningrad, may partially close the skies over Lithuania, the news agency “Unian” reports.

“When Europe began to close Russia’s airspace, the first serious supplies of air defense to Belarus began, which were not really needed for the war with Ukraine. However, closing the skies over Lithuania, for example over the Suwalki corridor, is quite useful,” explained Ivan. Preobrazhensky.

The NRA portal has already written that Lithuania has restricted the transit of certain goods in compliance with the sanctions imposed by the European Union (EU) on 18 June. Moscow responded by promising that the Lithuanian people would feel the consequences of these measures.

Lithuanian President Gitan Nauseda believes that the country’s government should immediately start consultations with the European Commission on the introduction of sanctions on Kaliningrad transit, European Truth reports.

“The government must immediately start consultations with the European Commission so that the imposed sanctions do not harm either the interests of Lithuania or international agreements. Only together will we achieve that the sanctions against the aggressor state are painful,” Nauseda said.

He emphasized that he had discussed the issue with the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leien on Thursday and noted that Lithuania would not compromise with Russia.

“Lithuania must retain control over the goods that are transported through its territory, and there can be no question of ‘corridors.’ Just as there can be no question of concessions to Russia,” Nauseda said.
