The EU countries, as well as the US, are calling on their citizens to leave Russia and Belarus. This may be a consequence of the restriction of any land or air corridors with countries of dictatorial regimes.
Poland, as an EU country bordering Belarus, has closed almost all land checkpoints with Belarus. Thus, the ability of Europeans to leave Belarus and Russia is increasingly limited, so it is advisable to warn EU and US citizens about this.
Such an opinion in TSN.ua comments expressed military expert Sergei Grabsky.
“The threat from Belarus exists permanently. I would pay attention to the fact that Poland, as an EU country, has closed several border crossings on the Polish-Belarusian border, leaving one crossing. Even objectively, without any threats, the ability to leave the country due to land corridors decreased significantly,” he said.
Grabsky noted that Belarus has a very limited number of flights to countries other than Russia. Therefore, the possibility of evacuating EU citizens is significantly limited.
“Where to go? To Moscow? Put yourself in danger? Why? There, it seems that you need to apply for an exit visa or something like that – these are additional difficulties. Therefore, from the point of view of common sense, any EU country should say to its citizens: “Dear friends, the opportunity your evacuation is greatly limited. We recommend that you leave these countries, because you have nothing to do there,” the expert is convinced.
However, according to Grabsky, the situation with the United States is somewhat different. Today, citizens of the United States in Russia are persecuted.
“With the issue of the United States, there are problems with the persecution of US citizens. And this can create certain problems. The US State Department would like to reduce the likelihood of being involved in some processes where the issue of primitive bargaining will arise,” the expert believes.
According to him, France, which also urged its citizens not to go to Belarus, is simply “leading”.
“It is possible that other countries in some other way warn their citizens about the expediency of leaving the territory of the specified state. Because they (the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation – ed.) are becoming more and more isolated. And to have such a number of citizens of free countries on the territory of dictatorial regimes – it is inexpedient,” the expert is convinced.
Grabsky added that it is still impossible to say that a situation of immediate escalation is being created in Belarus. However, all steps have been taken, indicating that the territory of Belarus can be used for any offensive operation.
“But this will take at least several months with certain factors that we are not monitoring yet,” Grabsky said.
Recall that the US Embassy in Moscow called on American citizens immediately leave the territory of Russia. The diplomats also advised not to enter the territory of the Russian Federation because of the unforeseen consequences of the invasion of Ukraine.
In turn, Canada also called on its citizens to leave Belarus immediately. The country’s Foreign Ministry explained that the danger could come from selective justice and Russia’s war against Ukraine.
