Experience a Mid-Century Music Extravaganza at Modernism Week

Modernism Week isn’t just about architecture talks and bus tours. This year’s 11-day festival also includes several live entertainment offerings, such as tribute artists and concerts by modern artists with ’50s-inspired sound to put you in a mid-century mood.

Whether you’re a fan of the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, jazz or other vintage music, there’s something for everyone.

Here’s your guide to Modernism Week’s entertainment offerings.

“Route 66: a musical and culinary journey across America”

Have fun on Route 66 with an interactive musical experience and an atmosphere that pays homage to one of America’s original highways. The event includes a four-course dinner, cocktails and classic songs saluting the open road from Santa Monica to Chicago.

“Swinging On A Star: An Evening of Jimmy Van Heusen Songs”

Those who have never heard of Jimmy Van Heusen have heard at least one of his songs. The composer and songwriter wrote more than 1,000 pieces, and Sinatra recorded more of his songs than any other composer he worked with. Many of his songs are considered American standards. You can expect singer Marissa Mulder to perform Van Heusen classics “Come Fly With Me” and “All The Way,” including lesser-known tracks such as “Sunday, Monday, or Always.”

“Swingin’ The Disney Songbook”

Do you like music from classic Disney films? You’ll dance the night away at this retro jazz show from The New Jet Set featuring Adryon de León from the Disney songbook. This stellar quartet fuses their musicality with Disney imagery and period footage.

Festival international de jazz de Palm Springs

The Palm Springs International Jazz Festival partners with Modernism Week to feature renowned classical and modern jazz musicians such as Herb Albert and Lani Hall (February 24), The Cookers (February 25), Veronica Swift (February 25 ) and the blues legend. Taj Mahal and African singer Sona Jobarteh (February 25).

“Beatles & Beyond : musique mod et cocktail”

The Beatles had a mid-century modern taste and style during the group’s early years. Celebrate the songs of the Fab Four at this Mod Music and cocktail evening with local musicians the Ghent Band, with a screen projecting Beatles images and graphics. The party includes cocktails, appetizers and music from the Palm Springs Piano Bar in the lobby.
