Expensive-fuel, cars that consume less

The ups and downs of the price of gasoline despite the cut in excise duties forces motorists to reckon with a hundredth of fuel costs and to look for all the best solutions to spend less at the distributor. The first evaluation to make is first of all to understand how much does your car consume and for this it can be useful to compare it with the models that “waste” less. For this purpose, the AutoScout24 marketplace, one of the major online automotive portals, has compiled the ranking of cars on the basis of the liters of petrol used for the kilometers traveled.

The cars that consume less: the categories

Obviously at the top of the ranking of car models that consume less are placed the plug-in hybrids that with about 1 liter per 100 km from this point of view, at least, petrol cars are preferred over diesel cars and, finally, LPGs which, despite being powered by the cheapest fuel, consume more on average (here we wrote about earnings of distributors).

On average a petrol car consumes 7.5 liters per 100 km, i.e. 13 kilometers per liter, while a diesel car consumes on average 6 liters per 100 km, around 16 kilometers with a liter (here to find out how to get the 200 euro petrol bonus).

Cars that consume less: petrol engines

That cars with a gas are not the cheapest ones in terms of consumption is known, but among these it is still possible to find the models that waste less:

  • Citroen C3 (23,8 km/l)
  • Renault Twingo (22.7 km/l)
  • Hyundai i10 (20,6 km/l)
  • Mitsubishi Space Star (20 km/l)

Cars that consume less: Diesel engines

Despite in recent years the car market Diesel limited to a medium-high class market, these engines offer a good ratio between consumption, on which they are only lower than hybrids, and dealership price, lower than plug-ins (here we have explained until the fuel costs less). Here are the models that consume less:

  • Honda Civic (29,4 km/l)
  • Renault Megane (25.6 km/l)
  • Opel Corsa (25 km / l)
  • Mercedes A-Class sedan (25 km/l)

Cars that consume less: LPG engines

LPG models are now rare to see, given that they have been supplanted in the direct offer at the goal of the energy transition by greater production of hybrids and electric. Among the few “gas” cars left on the automotive market, those that consume less:

  • Hyundai i10 (14,7 km/l)
  • Kia Rio (14.7 km/l)
  • Fiat 500 (14,0 km / l)

The cars that consume less: the top-ranked hybrids

At the top of the ranking of cars that consume less are the ibride plug-in, which thanks to the combination of the piston engine and the electric one, can reduce fuel consumption through the use of large capacity batteries capable of traveling for a long time. The savings are obvious as long as the battery is charged. Here are the models with the lowest consumption that occupy the top 7 positions of AutoScout24’s 2022 ranking:

  • Volkswagen Golf (0.9 l/100 km)
  • Audi A3 Sportback (1,0 l/100 km)
  • Ford Kuga (1 l / 100 km)
  • Mercedes Class A (1 l/100 km)
  • Seat Leon (1 l/100 km)
  • Skoda Octavia (1l / 100 km)
  • Suzuki Across (1 l/100 km)
