An Italian nurse tells in a poignant message on Instagram how difficult it is to work in a hospital in times of the ever-advancing corona virus. “I’m scared and tired, but I’m doing my bit,” Alessia Bonari writes with a photo of the bruises that left her bad goggles on her face.

The candid story of Bonari has been liked almost 800,000 times in two days and is very popular on social media. She describes that during her exhausting shifts, she is unable to go to the toilet or eat anything for six hours because she walks in protective clothing to fight coronavirus infection. She is terrified of that, she says honestly.
Exhausted
“I am afraid that the mask I wear does not fit my face enough and that I may have accidentally touched myself with dirty gloves,” it says. “I am physically tired. The material to protect us is bad, my lab coat makes me sweat, and once I get dressed I can’t go to the toilet or drink for six hours. ”
Bonari is exhausted not only physically, but also mentally. Overtime has been the rule rather than the exception in recent weeks. “But that doesn’t stop us from doing our job as always. I will continue to take care of my patients because I am proud of my work and love to do it. ”
Many responses
The Italian addresses everyone who feels involved with the coronavirus. “I ask anyone who reads this to be selfless and stay at home. And so protect those people who are the most vulnerable, ”said Bonari. “We young people are not immune to the coronavirus. We too can get sick. Or worse. I don’t have the luxury of returning to my quarantined home. I have to work and do my bit. You do that too. Please.”
Alessia Bonari has been overloaded for many days with many positive reactions and heartwarming expressions of support. Already 20,000 Instagram users have supported the young woman and thanked her for her efforts. “You are an example,” it says. “For the country and all of humanity. I send you a big hug. ”
Overload
Bonari’s story doesn’t come out of the blue. The risk of overloading healthcare capacity in countries such as Italy is high. Without strong measures against the pandemic, the capacity of intensive care units will fall far short in most countries, given the number of IC sites that will be available in hospitals by the end of this month. The care system is already “saturated” in parts of Italy.
The impact of rapid growth in the number of infected patients on hospitals and other medical institutions varies by country, depending on the level of preparation and the ability to quickly scale up the number of IC beds, experts said.
It is more and more likely that the virus will spread further. It is important to delay the advance. Some laboratories report that they have a serious shortage of diagnostic material. The official number of deaths has risen sharply in Italy. More than 800 patients have now died from the disease.
The number of Italians who contracted the dreaded lung virus also rose sharply. The counter came to 12,462. On Tuesday, 10,149 people were still registered as infected. Meanwhile, another 1045 patients have been declared cured.
