The employment of executives will mark a new record in 2020, says the Association for the employment of executives (APEC) in its forecasts published Friday, February 14; 281,300 supervisors were recruited in 2019 and they will be 5% more this year, or 296,600. The threshold of 300,000 should be exceeded in 2022. “This good momentum will continue. Companies continue to recruit massively, as transformations always require more expertise ”, comments, the director general of APEC, Bertrand Hébert, who however issues a caveat for seniors who do not all benefit from it.

Some recent figures confirm this orientation. An engineering specialist, Alten announced on February 11 the recruitment of 4,400 positions on permanent contracts (CDI) in 2020 (including 1,900 in Ile-de-France): 4,000 engineers, 260 business managers and 140 executives for support functions. In telecommunications, on February 6, Orange HR director Valérie Le Boulanger, who presented her “Engage 2025” strategic plan, said she wanted to double the number of technical experts by 2025 to reach more than 20,000 people.

“In two years, 150,000 new jobs have been created”, insists Gaël Bouron, deputy head of the APEC studies department. The association’s annual survey was conducted from October 21 to December 31, 2019 among 10,000 companies representing 1.7 million employees. It takes stock of the number of new permanent and fixed-term contracts (CDD) of at least one year, internal promotions and departures since January 2019. For several years, the high level of recruitment has favored their mobility, from 6% to 9% between 2015 and 2018. But in 2019, internal admissions and promotions were significantly higher than exits, with 74,800 net job creations.

Integration of digital transformation

The slowdown in economic growth, to + 1.2% of gross domestic product (GDP) in 2019, had little impact on executive employment. However, after three years of double-digit growth in recruitment, the pace slowed down with an increase of 6% in 2019 and only 5% for 2020. “But recruitments are rather indexed to corporate investments, up 4.2% in 2019”, explains Gaël Bouron. In 2020, entrepreneurs should maintain their propensity to invest, in order to further integrate digital transformation, explains APEC.
