According to the newspaper, the case is being investigated for abuse of office and violation of official secrets. The document allegedly described the Newbie formula and the OPCW’s identification procedure.
Jan Marsalek is the former COO of Wirecard payments system. In the summer of 2020, it became known about the disappearance of Marsalek: he was suspected of stealing Wirecard customers’ funds for 2 billion euros, the authorities of Germany and Austria put him on the wanted list.
In January 2021, the Russian Dossier Center and German newspapers published an investigation saying that Marsalek could have been recruited by Russian intelligence (GRU RF) more than 20 years ago and that he could be hiding in Russia at one of the GRU residences near Moscow. As the investigators assumed, all this time Marsalek provided financial services to Russian intelligence officers, and also reported to them about contacts with Western intelligence services and politicians.
Marsalek boasted to traders that he had these documents. Their content could interest the Russian special services in order to understand how far the OPCW has advanced in the investigation into the Skripal poisoning.
