Evo Morales, enthusiastic about the return of Unasur: “We must stop any intervention in our towns” | A talk with Víctor Hugo Morales, 15 years after the birth of the integration organization

Three weeks ago, the national government announced the return of Argentina to the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), the integration organization born in May 2008. Now, the Brazilian president, Inacio “Lula” da Silvaalso communicated the return of the Giant of the South to the entity after his predecessor, Jair Bolsonarowill withdraw the country in 2019.

In this regard, the former president of the Plurinational State of Bolivia Evo Morales celebrated the return of Argentina and Brazil to the organization and highlighted their role in the integration of the Great Homeland: “I have great confidence and hope in the new Unasur. The new president of Chile (Gabriel Boric), with his integrationist conviction, is going to join. But he must not only remain as Unasur, but as a strategic alliance with other continents“, he maintained in dialogue with Víctor Hugo Morales in AM750.

Along the same lines, the former president considered that, in this new stage of Unasur, it is important for Latin America to promote “a liberation in science and technology“and cut dependency on other countries.

“After nationalizing we start with industrialization, and when we have to industrialize we have to buy technology that has to be imported from Europe or Asia. I mean: It is a pending issue, we lack a liberation in science and technology. When we buy technology in other continents there is a flight of currency“, he mused.

On the other hand, Morales criticized the attacks of the United States and that of its countries that were then allies that joined different organizations opposed to Latin American integrationism.

“Let us remember that in the administration of (Barack) Obama and (Donald) Trump organized the so-called Pacific Alliance to continue with the policies of the Washington consensus, after the FTAA was buried in Mar del Plata in 2005. They also organized the Lima Group to defeat Maduro,” added Morales.

Finally, the former Bolivian president who was overthrown in 2019 questioned the countries that “They only want Latin Americans to guarantee the raw material“. “They do not want us to add value to our natural resources“, he maintained, and exemplified with the discovery of lithium in Argentina, Bolivia and Chile.
