8.50 am: Mongolia closes border and universities
Mongolia closes the long border with neighboring China for pedestrians and cars. The government has also closed all educational institutions in the country. Universities and schools will close until 2 March.
Mongolia wants to keep the virus out. There are no known infections in the vast country.
8.40 am: consultation in The Hague
In the Netherlands, experts from the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment advise Minister Bruins (Medical Care) on possible measures in our country.
We are probably not hearing anything about this today and the minister will be providing information from that consultation tomorrow.
8.30 am: China extends holiday of population
The Chinese authorities have the holiday on the occasion of the Chinese New Year throughout the country extended by three days. The measure must prevent further spread of the new corona virus. The death toll has since risen to eighty.
The holiday actually lasts until Thursday, but is now extended until the weekend. This should prevent many holiday makers from returning home in the coming days and spreading the virus along the way.
