MU, which appeared dominant, was conceded by Anthony Gordon’s goal in the 27th minute. Gordon’s kick from outside the penalty box hit Harry Maguire and outwit David de Gea.
Left behind by one goal, Manchester United continued to put pressure on Everton in the second half. However, Everton were able to withstand the onslaught of the visitors and maintain their advantage until the game was over.
With this result, MU is still stuck in seventh place Premier League standings with 51 points from 31 games. They are three points away from the Champions League zone.
Meanwhile, Everton continue their efforts to move away from the relegation zone. Frank Lampard’s troops are ranked 17th with 28 points or four points above the red zone.
The course of the match
MU threatened the Everton goal in the ninth minute. Starting from Bruno Fernandes’ free kick, the ball failed to be driven away by the Everton defense. Marcus Rashford grabbed the ball and forced Jordan Pickford to make a save.
Pickford again thwarted United’s chances two minutes later. Fernandes’ cross from the left was headed in by Rashford. Pickford reacted well to parry the ball.
MU got space through Fernandes attack on the left side following a mistake by Fabian Delph. But Fernandes’ bait into the penalty box was far from the reach of Jadon Sancho and Rashford.
Goal! Everton surprised MU in the 27th minute. Everton’s first shot in this match, which was released by Anthony Gordon, immediately resulted in a goal.
