Daniele De Rossi does not want to take lightly the challenge of Europa League with the Brighton. The Roma coach will challenge for the first time Roberto De Zerbi in a sort of Italian derby that will offer two different styles of play. A match that does not frighten the Capitoline coach, but which at the same time must be prepared with great attention as explained in the press conference. “It’s not easy to make a comparison. Brighton are certainly an emerging club, they don’t have a decade-long history. I believe that Roberto is giving something recognizable in the world, a brand that he carries with him. Bologna is fourth in our country and Roberto has brought something similar to Sassuolo. I think it’s something similar, but it can only be repeated if you have a coach with great ideas or a club that can buy young players. Three or four? I won’t tell you.”
Speaking of comparisons on the bench, De Rossi also spoke about his relationship with De Zerbi who he met when he was still a Roma player. Much has changed, but certainly not the support of the fans who will once again fill the stands of the Olympic Stadium tomorrow evening. “I have had an excellent relationship with De Zerbi since I was a footballer after the matches and he was taking his first steps as a coach. After the match we spoke and I expressed my admiration towards him for the game he proposed in Benevento, in Palermo and we talked about the his present and what my future would be – explained De Rossi -. He has brilliant ideas and is a different coach. They also have excellent players and have bought many good ones. I expect a complicated and difficult match.”
The Giallorossi coach also explained what his team’s attitude could be, evaluating whether Roma will take the field by focusing more on instinct or following the moves of the English: “You make a distinction between instinct and reason with a defensive or offensive team. I make a direct correlation. I think that Roma are a great team that must respect Brighton and how they play, but we are Roma. I think it will be a great match. The first thing we need to know is that Brighton plays in the “Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal have their own half of the pitch. Sometimes they get stuck,” concluded De Rossi. “There will be various games within the match. We should be good at playing them and winning them both. We should be good when we have the ball, and I hope as much as possible, both when in front of a team that does it very well and does it against very strong players”.
