Evacuations after fire in thrift store Dokkum

An apartment complex in Dokkum has been evacuated due to a major fire in a thrift store. The fire was discovered late in the evening and was brought under control around 2:30 am. 35 people had to leave their homes. No one was injured.

In any case, the residents will not be able to return home tonight because of the smoke. A number of windows in the apartment complex were also broken. The evacuated residents spend the night in a hotel or with family. It is not yet known when they can return home, but possibly this weekend.

The fire brigade was able to prevent the fire from spreading to the residential complex. The warehouse that housed the thrift store was completely destroyed.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
