Netflix released Eurovision Song Contest, a comedy soaring on the famous European song contest, yesterday. But did the actors, who embody singers, really give voice?
The Eurovision and Will Ferrell contest is a great love story. The actor, who passionately follows the competition each year with his wife, took the opportunity given by Netflix to make a film on the subject. In Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, he sets up with Rachel McAdams a singular (and not very gifted) duo who is (badly) lucky to represent Sweden in the competition. Musical requires, the actors must perform several titles … but some have been dubbed for the occasion.
This is the case of Rachel McAdams and Dan Stevens. The first was indeed dubbed by a Swedish singer, Molly Sandén, who participated in the Eurovision junior competition in 2006. She knows the dubbing rather well: it is she, for example, who is chosen to lend her voice to the character of Rapunzel in the Swedish version. The young woman recorded several titles for the film, including Volcano Man, to rediscover below.
Dan Stevens, who lends his features to the Russian singer Alexander Lemtov also called on a voice actor for his sung parts. Yet the actor knows something about music, we heard him in the musical Beauty and the Beast alongside Emma Watson. In an interview with Attitude, he explains that he had to sing well in the film, but because of the pandemic, he could not realize this wish. The production team had to hire a baritone to double it.
In the end, only Will Ferrell really sings in the film. No wonder when you know the character well: in 2008 for example, he directed with Jack Black and John C. Reilly a musical number at the Oscars. We could also hear him sing at the SNL or in Frangins despite them (2008) …
